Back in full swingSo things are pretty much back in full swing for me here on dA. I'm even browsing from time to time. I've never browsed. But there I am...doing it. It's nice to spend time on here again, it's very refreshing especially since most of my other time online is spent reading/watching things about video games, a resource which tends to get exhausted quickly.
I've been shooting a tiny bit every day these days, a tiny bit. Nothing deviantworthy but some fun things none-the-less. Mikey is always the ever willing subject which is a nice change from how he was before I deployed where he was scared of the sound of the shutter. Now he thinks it's funny. Heheh.
In full fashion I do like to post photos I like that I've taken just to let you all know what I've been up to without flooding my gallery full of crap. I tend to clean out my gallery once a year to get rid of things I don't think are good anymore and move them over to my scraps. You'll notice most all of my poetry is in there no
Starting Up AgainOk so first I would like to retract my previous statement of being here for five years and instead state that i've been here for four. Yes, only four. divinedecay totally wins on that category HOWEVER we have both agreed that we need to resume our photo-taking adventures along with trying to get out of the house more and shoot photos. I need to get back on the streets and try to get my street gallery up to par with my work-related shots.
So in order to do this I proposed a challenge to divinedecay where we are going to choose our favorite deviation of the month and then challenge it against the other. The image with the most views / favorites will win and the victor will get something nice. In Bex's case it'll probably be a trip to Ikea where my reward will be being allowed to stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing Blazblue and getting ridiculously drunk while yelling at newbs.
We make a great couple.
It's nice to be back here and have a place to browse through ot
BackSo I'm back...sort of. Probably going to re-up my subscription once i'm not feeling too lazy to go find my wallet. divinedecay and I kind of agreed to give dA another go. Kind of nice to be back...maybe I won't be so bloody lazy this time around and I'll start shooting again.
Hard to believe I've been on this site for 5 years...weirdness...
Many thanks to the people who are still around and take the time to comment on my work, your encouragement is always very appreciated.
New projectWell I've finally caved in.
divinedecay and I are starting a blog project. God i hate the word blog...but oh well. You should swing by sometime, we're going to slowly be getting it underway, but I'm excited about writing inane rants again.
Also, don't be disuaded, Obama is still kicking ass, and personally this whole Palin thing has been making me feel ill since it was announced. In fact, i think i might have to blame the McCain campaign for my lack of photos recently.
At least the world didn't end yesterday.
Breaking News! Our hero is currently otherwise engaged in pursuits of truthiness and chasing a small man who's crawling about.
When he returns he'll let the world know.

Imagine that you are a young social worker, dedicated to finding out the hidden and forgotten old souls who haunt the cold, mean streets of the city. You seek to report on their living conditions, possibly recommending they be removed from their roach-infested “homes.”

Manip AcademyIntroducing a new project!
Manip Academy (thanks, cristii, for inspiration for the name) is a new photomanipulation project inspired by projecteducate. We all love to learn, and we learn best from one another. Here's our chance to share what we know.
Manip Academy is an education initiative designed to spread the knowledge and the love. It is a collaboration between CRPhotomanipulation and we-HEART-photomanip. We will share tips and tricks for photomanipulation success. It is difficult to write tutorials, but anyone can write a simple tip or describe how they achieved a specific effect.
This project will feature two weekly articles written by the community every week, on Mondays and Thursdays. This will be an ongoing project within our community, and we hope that many people will take advantage of the chance to sign up to submit one blog or even just a few sentences to help the community.

Check your Angles
Avoid unflattering angles, don't frame your model with their arms or legs chopped off unless it works for the image. If in doubt, fully frame them and do the chopping afterwards in post-processing! Don't forget to check that the tops of their heads and their feet are in focus. Missing feet are disconcerting!
Be the Director
As the Photographer, most people will be looking to you for direction. There's no time to be shy when you're behind the camera! Keep calm to help your model remain relaxed but make sure they're not made to feel awkward if you lack giving instruction. Pose them well, avoid direct bright sunlight and check out your background.
Eye contact...or not
Eye contact isn't always necessary, in fact candid journalistic style photographs often work best. Your subject doesn't have to be looking directly at the camera for it to be a successful shoot, but yo

Where street and art nudes collideThe New York Post reports on a photographer who has a rather unorthodox method of capturing nudes in public places.

Also, this totally made me laugh, the idea is genius really.
All Here For A ReasonI turned onto a shady, well-manicured driveway that, for all intents and purposes, looked harmless enough. Maple trees lined both sides of the street, and a parade of Canadian geese marched across the road to a wide duck pond with a flamboyant fountain. There were blooming crepe myrtles and rose-of-sharons, and as I grew closer to my destination, neatly trimmed gardens with neatly trimmed bushes.
I stopped to let the geese pass. They looked at me; one hissed. I honked my horn and moved around them.
At the end of the road sat a collection of grayish buildings and a number of signs directing me to the appropriate parking lot. "Welcome to Ten Creeks Hospital," said one of them. "Please enjoy your stay." I parked in the visitor's lot. Surely I wouldn't be staying.
I was shaking when I got out of my car. I had spent the morning getting high. One foot in front of the other, flip-flop noises, hot sidewalk. Mulberry and magnolia trees, freshly shaved grass. A bench and pan for smokers. A set o
